Players are human beings too, and sometimes we as fans forget that. Elina Svitolina was going through a slump in form when her personal life was under distress, but soon after her engagement she seems to have turned a new leaf. She reached the Semi-finals of the Miami Open on hard courts and followed it up with another Semi-final appearance at the Stuttgart Open which was her first tournament on clay this year. In the Madrid Open though she suffered a three set loss to Jil Teichmann, 6-2 4-6 6-7.

Svitolina had a bye in the first round, and in the second she will start her campaign against the tall American teenager Amanda Anisimova. Anisimova had reached the Semi-finals of the French Open back in 2019. On clay this year, she hasn’t yet played her best tennis. In the first round here, she overcame Chinese player Wang Qiang in straight sets 7-5 6-3.

Svitolina is a former champion here in Rome, having won the event in 2017. She is a fantastic mover on court and has an all round balanced game. Anisimova plays her best tennis on clay, but she is not in her best touch right now. Expect the American girl to fight, but Svitolina should take this home.

Match Prediction: Elina Svitolina will beat Amanda Anisimova in three sets.
