Iga Swiatek has a lot at stake in the next few weeks. Her French Open title defense is coming up in less than a month now and she will look to go far into the Italian Open which will give her enough match practice and after that enough time to recover to be ready and in optimum shape for the Title defense at Roland Garros.

Her start to the clay court swing this year has been average. She has played only the Madrid Open so far, and in that tournament she was ousted in the round of sixteen by Ash Barty. In Rome, she overcame Alison Riske. Riske gave a walkover when 4-5 down in the first set.

Her second round opponent is Madison Keys. Keys has not had a great start on clay and was ousted in the first round at both the Charleston Open and the Madrid Open. At Rome, she overcame Sloane Stephens in the first round, in three sets, 4-6 6-2 7-5.

Keys is a finalist at this event from 2016. Swiatek will look to play in her trademark aggressive style, attacking the net whenever she can. Keys will look to control the rallies from the back. Swiatek should win this without much hassle.
