Petra Kvitova vs Vera Zvonareva: Preview
Kvitova has made two quarterfinal appearances on clay in 2021. After losing to Elina Svitolina in Stuttgart, she also went down to Ashleigh Barty in Madrid last week. Although the Czech didn’t find her range on Monday in the opening round against Magda Linette, she managed to get the job done in three sets. She has played 10 matches on the dirt so far this year and has won seven of them.
On the other hand, the veteran Russian defeated Christina Mchale in the first round after coming through two qualifying rounds. After returning to the tour in 2018 after a three-year break, the Zvonareva has not been able to deliver consistent performances. She is yet to make the round of 16 on clay this year.
Petra Kvitova vs Vera Zvonareva: Head to Head
These two have met six times on the tour and are tied 3-3. Their last meeting was a decade ago at the WTA championships, where Kvitova won in straight sets. Also, these two girls have also met on the clay twice and it’s the Czech who has a 2-0 advantage over the Russian on the dirt.
Petra Kvitova vs Vera Zvonareva: Prediction
Kvitova is the favourite to win this match. That said, she didn’t find much rhythm in her opening round. On the other hand, Zvonareva can blow hot and cold as we have seen in all these years. If she can find her sweet spot of the racquet, Kvitova will have her work cut out. Back the lanky girl from the Czech Republic is more consistent from the back of the court and that should see her progress ahead in the tournament.
Match Prediction: Petra Kvitova should win in two sets.
