Belarusian Aliaksandra Sasnovich has had a decent run this season, reaching the quarters at Palermo and Istanbul. She also reached the third round of the US Open and the second round of the French Open.

The world no. 92 had skipped playing on indoor hardcourt tournaments until Linz. However, she seemed very much at home after her first two matches here. In the first round, she routed American Bernarda Pera in straight sets, losing just 4 games. She received a little more competition in the second round, going against Jana Fett. The Croat clinched the first set but eventually lost steam to give Sasnovich the win in three sets.

Her opponent in this match will be Barbora Krejcikova. The Czech 24-year-old is mainly a doubles player, having achieved varied levels of success in the format. She has won two Grand Slam women’s doubles titles along with Katerina Siniakova. More recently, she also won the mixed doubles title at the Australian Open along with Croat Nikola Mektic.

At Linz, she defeated Harmony Tan in three sets in the first round. In the second round, she was faced with a tough opponent, the Belgian Greet Minnen. She managed to bring the fight to Krejcikova, threatening to cause an upset in straight sets. However, Krejcikova managed to win the tiebreak in the second set and sealed the decider to win the match.
