Sabalenka has had a great great last few months, and her USP is that she doesn’t lose to just anybody. In the last few months she has lost to Serena Williams and twice to Garbine Muguruza. The rest she just dispatches off with her ultra aggressive brand of attacking tennis.

In the second round of the Miami Open she overcame a spirited opponent in Tsvetana Pironkova. Pironkova stretched her to three rounds, but we got to see the fighter in Sabalenka as she came back to win the match. In her third round encounter she was in control as she subdued Veronika Kudermetova, 7-6 6-4.

Her fourth round opponent is Marketa Vondrousova. Vondrousova is only twenty one but is already a former French Open Finalist. Vondrousova had a bye in the first round, in the second round she beat China’s Wang Qiang 6-4 6-4. In her third round encounter she beat the eleventh seed Belinda Bencic 4-6 6-4 6-4.

This will be the fourth meeting between the two players. Till now in the three meetings, Vondrousova leads 2-1. The last time these two players met was in Hertogenbosch in 2018, an encounter that Sabalenka won 0-6 7-5 6-3.

Sabalenka relies on her power to get her out of trouble and it usually does, but she has to be careful on the slow hardcourts of Miami. Vondrousova is a cunning and crafty left handed player who uses the typical lefty angular crosscourt to great effect. This will be a very close match, but the fight that Sabalenka has should see her triumph.  

Match Prediction: Aryna Sabalenka will beat Marketa Vondrousova in three sets.
