Svitolina did not have the best of starts to the season. But she hit a new low when she was beaten in her very first match at the Dubai Open 2021. At the Miami Open 2021, she got a bye in the first round. Her second round opponent was Shelby Rogers. Rogers can be a tricky opponent, and she did take the first set.

But, Svitolina kept her composure and completed a comeback win in three sets 3-6 7-5 6-3. In the third round she faced Ekaterina Alexandrova and completed a relatively comfortable win 7-6, 6-4. But her best performance thus far has come at the fourth round where she beat Petra Kvitova. In a match that was riddled by errors from both players. Svitolina showed great composure to complete her second comeback win of the tournament so far.

In the end she won in three sets, 2-6 7-5 7-5. Her opponent in the Quarter-Finals is Anastasija Sevastova. Sevastova has played some decent tennis in the tournament so far, but more than that she has had luck on her side too. She beat Olga Danilović in the first round of the tournament, the three setter could have gone either way but Sevastova won it via tie breaker.

In the second round she got the better of Coco Gauff, again in three sets. She got lucky in the third as Halep pulled out of the tournament. In the fourth round she faced Ana Konjuh. Konjuh served pathetically in the match. The encounter lasted two sets and Sevastova won it 6-1 7-5.
