Svitolina has not had a great season so far. She could only go as far as the fourth round in the Australian Open, where she fell to Jessica Pegula in three sets. In Qatar she was beaten in the Quarterfinals by Victoria Azarenka in straight sets. In Dubai things went from bad to worse as she couldn’t clear the second round hurdle and lost in three sets to Svetlana Kuznetsova.
At Miami she had a bye in the first round and beat Shelby Rogers, 3-6 7-5 6-3, in the second round. The victory over Rogers should give Svitolina a lot of confidence as she came from a set down to win the match. Her third round opponent is Ekaterina Alexandrova.
Alexandrova reached the Quarter Finals of the St. Petersburg Open a few days back. In this tournament she had a bye in the first round and beat Nadia Podoroska in the second round. The 30th seed played a great match of Tennis and beat Podoroska in three sets 6-0 6-4.
