Pliskova has been going through an awful run of form of late. She has barely made it past the first or second rounds in most tournaments. It’s only due to the frozen rankings that she is still the World no.6 and gets seeded at every event. Her best performance post lockdown still remains the Final appearance at the Italian Open.

The last tournament that she participated in was the Dubai Open, where she was ousted in the round of 16 by Jessica Pegula, 0-6 2-6. Pliskova got a bye in the first round, in the second round she will meet the Chinese tennis player Saisai Zheng. Zheng had reached the Quarterfinals of the just concluded Monterrey Open.

At that stage she tasted defeat at the hands of Ann Li of the USA. Zheng came up against Fiona Ferro in the first round of the Miami Open, a match she won in three sets, 2-6 6-4 6-3.

Pliskova is low on confidence and in terrible form. Her serve specially, which has been her biggest weapon in the past, has let her down recently. Either she has made too many double faults or failed to win points off her second serve. Zheng though is not in great form herself, and will find it hard to overpower Pliskova. 

Match Prediction: Karolina Pliskova will beat Saisai Zheng in three sets.
