Kuznetsova was ranked as high as no.2 in the World, and has two Grand Slam titles to her credit. In the last two tournaments she has shown signs of coming back to form. In the Dubai Open 2021, she beat First seed Elina Svitolina in the round of thirty-two, and reached the round of sixteen.

In the just concluded St. Petersburg open, she reached the Semifinals of the event before falling to Daria Kasatkina 6-1 0-6 2-6. Her first round opponent is the Frenchwoman Alizé Cornet. Cornet was once ranked no.11 in the World, but recently her form hasn’t been that great. She was ousted in the first round of the Lyon Open. At Dubai she was beaten in the second round by Aryna Sabalenka, 6-2 6-4.
