Kovinic has been in terrific form in the last two weeks. First she reached the Finals of the Charleston Open and now she has reached the Semi-finals of Charleston 2. Undoubtedly the best two weeks in the professional career of the player from Montenegro. At Charleston Open Kovinic showed that she can take on and beat players ranked higher than her. She got the better of Petra Kvitova, Yulia Putintseva and Ons Jabeur.

At Charleston 2 this week, he has showed she can continue beating players ranked higher than her as she defeated seventh seed Lauren Davis and third seed Shelby Rogers. In the Semi-finals, She will face seed no.1 Ons Jabeur. Jabeur had come into this tournament on the back of a Semi-final appearance at Charleston Open. In that tournament she had beaten Coco Gauff, and Alize Cornet. At the Charleston 2, so far, she has played against players with less experience and less ability. Having said that, the way she tore into Nao Hibino in the Quarter-finals, defeating her 6-0 6-1, sent out a strong message.

The way Kovinic overcame local favourite Shelby Rogers speaks volumes of her confidence at the moment. Rogers was one of the favorites to win this trophy, but she was sent packing by Kovinic in straight sets, 7-5 6-1. A victory of that authority against a good player has to make Kovinic the favourite going into the Semi-final tie. Jabeur lost to Kovinic in the last tournament and that too will play a part  psychologically.
