Jabeur had taken the long, hard road once before only to get beaten when on the verge of achieving something. This happened last week when Ons Jabeur was beaten in the Semi-finals of the WTA 500 Charleston Open. In that match Danka Kovinic had shown Jabeur no mercy, and thrashed her in straight sets 6-3 6-2. Jabeur was faced with the same old foe this time around too, Kovinic standing between her and a place in the Final of the WTA 250 Charleston 2.
But this time Jabeur was not anxious or worried, she had announced before the match that she is coming for ‘Revenge’. In the match itself Jabeur played with aggression, consistency and never gave her opponent a chance to mount a comeback. Kovinic was blown away in two straight sets, beaten 6-3 6-0 by the lady from Tunis in Tunisia.
In the Finals she will face Astra Sharma. Sharma was born and raised in Singapore to an Indian father and an Chinese mother. Her family migrated to Australia when Sharma was only 1o. Sharma now competes under the Australian Flag. Sharma has shown some form recently, she reached the Quarter-finals of the Abierto Zapopan. At the Charleston 2 , she beat Chinese player Yafan Wang in the first round, then she overcame Madison Brengle.
In the Quarter-final she defeated fifteen year old high flyer Linda Fruhvirtova. In the Semi-finals she managed to stop the all conquering Maria Osorio Serrano. Sharma beat the Columbian in straight sets 7-6 6-1 to book her place in the Finals.
