Davis is seeded seventh for the event and rightfully so, as this American player plays her best tennis on clay. In the just concluded Charleston Open, she reached the round of sixteen. More than that it was her victory over the second seed Sofia Kenin that grabbed headlines. Davis beat Kenin in three sets, 4-6 6-3 6-4. She was ousted in the round of sixteen by her compatriot Coco Gauff. 

Davis will face CoCo Vandeweghe in the first round. Vandeweghe, who has been in and out of tour in the last two to three years, due to injury and subsequent surgery on hand, made her comeback to the tour in March 2020, after which she again stopped playing. Finally making a comeback to tour this year with the Miami masters. Unfortunately she couldn’t qualify for the main draw.
