Aryna Sabalenka booked her place in the semi-finals of the Wuhan Open after an excellent win over Elena Rybakina. The three-time champion will face Jessica Pegula for a place in the final of the WTA 1000 tournament. Sabalenka is yet to lose a match in Wuhan, and she’s currently on a 20-match winning streak.

Pegula has dropped a set in each of her three matches at the Wuhan Open. The American star had complained about the hot conditions of the tournament and looks to be struggling with it. She will face Sabalenka, who has familiarized herself with the humid temperature of the city, which will be an advantage to her.

Aryna Sabalenka vs. Jessica Pegula: Match Preview

Aryna Sabalenka has become a major powerhouse in the WTA this season. In fact, she arrived at the Wuhan Open, weeks after winning her fourth Grand Slam at the US Open in September.

She’s currently on a nine-match unbeaten run on tour, which began at the US Open. Sabalenka won her opening match at the 2025 Wuhan Open, beating Rebecca Sramkova in three sets. The World No.1 then went on to beat Liudmila Samsonova in less than an hour and a half. After that, she claimed a 6-3, 6-3 victory against Elena Rybakina to reach the semi-finals.

Jessica Pegula, on the other hand, has had to deal with several heartbreaks since winning the Bad Homburg Open in June. She struggled on the court, failing to win a match at the Wimbledon Championships. Also, she missed out on the opportunity to reach a back-to-back US Open final after crashing out in the semi-final.

However, the 31-year-old has been playing great tennis since the start of the Asian swing. She reached the semi-finals of the China Open and was close to earning a place in the final before losing to Linda Noskova in three sets. She has beaten Hailey Baptiste, Ekaterina Alexandrova, and Katerina Siniakova to reach the semi-finals of the WTA 1000 tournament.

Aryna Sabalenka vs. Jessica Pegula: Match Prediction

Aryna Sabalenka has never lost a match at the Wuhan Open, since her debut in 2018. She has often produced her best tennis at the tournament and has familiarized herself with the humidity of the city. She’s the favorite to beat Jessica Pegula because of her form at the moment and excellent run at the Wuhan Open.

The US Open champion has been a thorn in the flesh of Pegula this season. They have twice this season and each time Sabalenka ends up beating the American star, she goes on to win the title right away. In fact, Sabalenka holds an 8-2 head-to-head record against Pegula on tour and won their last meeting at the US Open in straight sets.

Sabalenka has won four titles this season and has been to eight finals, more than any player in the women’s circuit, while Pegula has won three tournaments this year, including the Charleston Open and Austin. Pegula will aim to win the match as it will guarantee her a spot at the WTA Finals in Riyadh, but Sabalenka has proven on several occasions that she’s only focused on winning titles.

Match Prediction: Aryna Sabalenka to win in three sets.
