After years of intense effort and perseverance, Big E has ascended the mountain to become the WWE Champion. That wasn’t the case when he first began his WWE career. Big E went from powerlifter to NXT powerhouse before taking on the unglamorous role of Dolph Ziggler’s bodyguard.

Some bodyguards, like Virgil, sit in silence for years, waiting for their turn to arrive, and then go with no fuss. Big E stood out right away and has the social media presence to back it up. Who’d have guessed that a guy who just wants to make the WWE a little more awkward is the future of wrestling?

The Show Off was depicted as a heel beside his on-screen lover and manager, AJ Lee, in December 2012. The erstwhile NXT Champion arrived out of nowhere on RAW and assaulted John Cena, assisting Ziggler and Lee. Big E served as Ziggler’s bodyguard, till the on-screen couple broke up in 2013.

During the 2013 Royal Rumble, Big E really came into his own, displaying the type of confidence you’d anticipate from a terrified Mean Gene Okerlund as he calmly listened to Dolph Ziggler complain about WWE hypocrisy for Vickie Guerrero. Big E’s interview is both an unexpected delight and a sign of grandeur to come, given how underutilised his mic work had been up to that time.

And what happened then? History is the witness!

Big E went on to become a powerhouse and won the Intercontinental Championship for a decent period of time before WWE decided to end his push. Xavier Woods met Kofi Kingston and Big E in 2014, resulting in the birth of the New Day, one of the greatest factions of all time. Ever since New Day‘s inception, a lot has changed. Big E has won six RAW Tag Team Championships and two SmackDown Tag Team Championships as a member of the team.

Tragically, the New Day’s powerhouse dropped his title to Apollo Crews after only a short time. Fortunately, WWE had something better in mind for him. In July 2021, Big E earned the title of Mr Money in the Bank, ensuring him an opportunity at the WWE Championship. Big E quickly cashed in his Money in the Bank briefcase on Bobby Lashley becoming the WWE Champion for the first time in his career in September 2021. Since then, he’s put on incredible matches with superstars such as Drew McIntyre, Kevin Owens, and Roman Reigns.
