The Royal Rumble is set to be the first PLE of WWE’s Netflix era. The event will take place at Lucas Oil Stadium in Indianapolis, Indiana, home of the Colts. The card is already stacked with two Rumble matches and a ladder match between Cody Rhodes and Kevin Owens. Adding to the excitement, WWE has announced a massive WWE Tag Team Championship match.
SmackDown GM Nick Aldis announced last night that WWE Tag Team Champions #DIY will defend their titles against the Motor City Machine Guns at the Royal Rumble in a 2-out-of-3 Falls match. Notably, this marks the first time the WWE Tag Team Titles will be defended at a PLE since WrestleMania XL. Given the intense rivalry between #DIY and MCMG, this match is a well-deserved spotlight for both teams.
At WrestleMania XL, the WWE Tag Team Titles were last defended in a thrilling Ladder Match, where A-Town Down Under emerged victorious. However, the titles have since been largely overlooked, receiving little to no spotlight. Now, it appears WWE is refocusing on the tag team division, as evidenced by placing this marquee match on the grand stage like the Royal Rumble.

Recently, #DIY turned heel on SmackDown during their match against the Motor City Machine Guns. Performing on a grand stage like the Royal Rumble provides them with an excellent opportunity to further develop their characters. With the road to WrestleMania heating up, this high-stakes title match could hint at major plans for the tag team division at WrestleMania.

Guess I have to remind people the work I do in that match type..
Gargano is widely renowned for his iconic 2-out-of-3 Falls match against Adam Cole on NXT. These matches were pivotal in defining the 37-year-old’s legacy during his time in the developmental territory. Fans are eager to see if the former NXT Champion can recreate that same magic at the Royal Rumble.
