Cody Rhodes and Kevin Owens went to war at the Royal Rumble. All of their built-up frustration and anger towards each other manifested as severe brutality. The babyface was able to eventually win the ladder match and retain his WWE Undisputed Champion. However, the bout seems to have done irreparable damage to both men.

In a WWE social media video, Jackie Redmond revealed that Cody Rhodes is dealing with multiple injuries following his match at the Royal Rumble. She did not have any information about the nature and intensity of these issues. However, these injuries were severe enough that the American Nightmare was pulled from the post-show press conference and did not address the WWE Universe.

Redmond also said that there was a lot of ambiguity regarding whether or not Rhodes would be medically cleared to compete in the ring. However, the WWE Undisputed was confirmed to make an appearance on the next episode of Friday Night SmackDown, set to emanate from Memphis, Tennessee.

The Prizefighter was also in extremely rough shape after their bout. Rhodes hit him with an Alabama Slam through a ladder, causing him to completely stop moving. This immediately prompted Sami Zayn and WWE officials to check up on him. The American Nightmare celebrated over the lifeless body of his opponent. Furthermore, blood could be seen gushing down Owens’ face after the match ended.

Cody Rhodes says he does not want to face John Cena in his retirement tour

John Cena participated in his first match as part of his retirement tour by entering the Men’s Royal Rumble. Although he made it to the final two, Jey Uso emerged victorious instead. The Hollywood superstar has a lot of wrestlers lined up to face him one final time, and fans have always wanted to see him take on Cody Rhodes. However, it appears that the 39-year-old is not such a fan of this idea.

In an interview with TheOneMona, Rhodes mentioned how guys in the locker room were lining up to face the Cenation Leader as soon as he announced his retirement tour. However, the former AEW EVP is not one of them. He said that he was a product of taking many smaller things from different wrestlers. John Cena was probably the one from whom he had borrowed the most.

I want to watch like a fan. I almost dread the idea of what that would look like. Because when you’re up against John now, you’re tasked to beat John Cena in his final run and that’s why I’m not raising my hand to be in that spot.

Rhodes did not like the fact that Cena’s career was coming to an end. However, he had to accept it. The 2x Royal Rumble winner dreaded the idea of what his retirement would look like. He simply wanted to continue watching on as a fan. He also did not like the idea of beating the 47-year-old during his final run.
