“Always been the funny guy”: CM Punk reacts to John Cena’s acting chops

Cena and Punk

John Cena is one of the most popular celebrities in the world. He was catapulted to global stardom after he signed with WWE in 2001. As soon as he debuted his trash-talking rapper character, the Doctor of Thuganomics, he immediately clicked with the WWE Universe. The company realized his potential and soon repackaged him as the face of the company.

Cena was given the Leader of Cenation character where he portrayed the role of a perfect-Superman like character. With the motto of “Hustle, Loyalty & Respect” he was pushed as the face of the company for nearly a decade. The 16-time WWE World Champion soon decided to switch careers and went to Hollywood.

Primarily he was seen in raunchy comedies like Trainwreck, Blockers and Vacation Friends. The fans loved and accepted him in such roles. But John Cena showed the world his acting chops through his differed roles in F9 as well as The Suicide Squad. The Leader of Cenation even got his own TV series – Peacemaker which was recently renewed for the second season.

While John Cena has won fans all over the globe, his former colleagues is impressed too! AEW star CM Punk, who is often considered to be Cena’s archnemesis recently discussed Cena’s work in an interview with ET Canada. He mentioned that WWE Superstars are just like theatre actors.

“Cena has always been that funny guy. I always thought behind the scenes, and I think anybody who has worked with him always thought. A lot of the guys at that top-level in WWE may not want to admit it, but all we are are theatre actors. We’re doing live theatre every Monday, every Friday, Thursday, Tuesday, whatever the hell the schedule is now. All that is, is theatre,” mentioned Punk.

2021 was a blockbuster year for John Cena. He returned to WWE for a month and delivered a massive feud with Universal Champion Roman Reigns, and played two big roles – Jakob Toretto and Peacemaker. While he got a chance to play the role of Peacemaker again, he might not be returning to the Fast & Furious franchisee.

But the Leader of Cenation wants to return to the series and he mentioned the same during an interview with Good Morning America. “I really hope you see me in Fast 10. I know they’re gearing up for production and I would love nothing more than to return to the franchise. I’m a big fan myself,” mentioned the Leader of Cenation.
