“I’m the best wrestler in the world”: Cody Rhodes reveals his creative error with AEW

Cody Rhodes made his much-awaited return to WWE at Wrestlemania 38. In the build up to the Showcase of Immortals, his return to the company was one of the biggest stories surrounding the event. What made the speculations of his return even more exciting was the fact that he was coming back to WWE, after playing a crucial role in making All Elite Wrestling what it is today.
The American Nightmare was a part of the company for nearly a decade, from 2006-2016. Post this he performed on the independent circuit before being announced as the executive vice president of the newly formed AEW in 2019. He went on to become the inaugural AEW TNT Championship – which he went on to hold for a total of three times.
Earlier this year, after failing to come to terms of a new contract, Cody Rhodes left AEW. After weeks of speculation – the American Nightmare came out as the mystery opponent for Seth Rollins at Wrestlemania 38. Delivering one of the best matches of the event – Rhodes picked up a huge win over the Monday Night Messiah.
The American Nightmare recently appeared on the latest episode of Out of Character with Ryan Satin. Speaking in great detail on numerous topics, Cody Rhodes opened up about the creative mistake he made in his career with AEW. He mentioned that he should’ve taken a management role at a later stage in his life.
“Maybe it would’ve been better served for me at age 45 than it did at age 33 or whatever it was. I am just now entering the prime of my career so to make political decisions like boxing myself out of winning a World Championship, those decisions in hindsight were not the correct decisions in what I should’ve been doing. I’m the best wrestler in the world, Ryan, I can tell you that without sounding braggadocios because this is simply all I do,” mentioned the American Nightmare.
Cody Rhodes will collide against Seth Rollins
The American Nightmare and the Monday Night Messiah brought the house down at Wrestlemania 38. But WWE has decided to treat the WWE Universe with more such encounters. The second match in this rivalry has already been announced – and is all set to take place at Wrestlemania Backlash.
While Wrestlemania Backlash is still a couple of weeks away, the card has already started taking up shape. Three matches have been announced for the PPV:
- Smackdown Women’s Championship: Charlotte Flair vs Ronda Rousey (I Quit match)
- Raw Tag Team Champions RK-Bro vs Smackdown Tag Team Champions The Usos
- Seth Rollins vs Cody Rhodes
