WWE criticized for using wrong footage for Hall of Fame

WWE Hall Of Fame 2021

WWE recently aired their Hall of Fame ceremony, where the Class of 2020 and 2021 were inducted. But WWE accidentally used the wrong footage for Ethel Johnson’s induction into the 2021 Hall of Fame Legacy Wing.

Johnson is considered to be the first female African-American wrestler in history. She made her wrestling debut at an early age of 16 in 1950 and retired in 1976. She wrestled for promotions like American Wrestling Association and Capitol Wrestling Corporation, which we today know as WWE.

While fans might’ve missed the error, Ethel Johnson’s niece took to Twitter to call out WWE for the use of wrong footage.

During Wrestler Observer Radio, Dave Meltzer revealed that instead of using Ethel Johnson’s image, WWE used the image of Sandy Parker, who looked nothing like Johnson.

“The footage of Ethel Johnson that they showed was not of Ethel Johnson it was of Sandy Parker, who was an African-American woman wrestler who came along probably, I’m going to say 15 years later. Ethel Johnson and Sandy Parker didn’t look anything alike.”

Ethel Johnson used to be a big attraction for the fans, and used to draw thousands of fans into the venue for her matches. Her younger sisters, Babs Wingo and Marva Scott were wrestlers too.

Baron Michele Leone, Brickhouse Brown, “Dr. Death” Steve Williams, Gary Hart and Ray Stevems were also inducted into the WWE Hall of Fame Legacy Class of 2020.
