AEW held its first-ever simulcast episode of Dynamite on Wednesday. Due to the historic significance of the show, it seems that two former WWE stars paid a visit backstage. As per PWInsider, WWE Hall of Famer Beth Phoenix and recently departed personality Samantha Irvin were backstage at Dynamite.
Interestingly, both stars’ partners, who are also former WWE stars, played key roles on the show. Phoenix’s husband, Adam Copeland, formerly known as Edge, competed in the main event. The Rated-R Superstar teamed with FTR to defeat The Death Riders trio of Jon Moxley, Claudio Castagnoli, and Wheeler Yuta.
Meanwhile, Irvin’s fiance, Ricochet, might’ve had the most important night of his AEW run so far. Following a disastrous end to his Continental Classic run, the high flyer took revenge on Swerve Strickland. Ricochet cost Strickland a triple-threat Casino Gauntlet #1 spot match. Moments later, the former Intercontinental Champion brutalized Strickland with a pair of scissors, leaving him in a bloody mess.
The report didn’t mention exactly why the duo was backstage. However, as expected, rumors on social media fueled up as fans speculated at the possibility of them joining AEW. Both Samantha Irvin and Beth Phoenix departed WWE last year.
Phoenix’s WWE Legends contract expired during the summer. As for the former ring announcer, she announced her departure a few months back. The ring announcer’s exit came as a shock to many, given how instrumental she was to the company. Irvin later provided an explanation, and a major factor in her departure might entice her into joining AEW.
Will Samantha Irvin join AEW as a manager to fiance Ricochet?
As mentioned above, Ricochet has finally found his footing in AEW. Over the past few weeks, a character shift has turned the tides for his run, which resulted in him turning heel on Dynamite. To add more heat to this new version of Ricochet, fans have suggested that he bring in a new manager.
With that said, Samantha Irvin would fit that role well. Following her departure, Irvin revealed that announcing was only a gateway for her to do bigger things in WWE. Irvin claimed that she wanted to be an on-screen character, preferably a manager.
However, the company didn’t see her beyond a ring announcer. Considering the current scenario in AEW, Irvin could fulfill her dream by joining the promotion and accompanying her fiance to his matches. It needs to be noted that Irvin is still under a non-compete clause, which might delay her move to AEW if she wishes to join.
