“Just quit it”: When James Gunn asked John Cena to stop taking the Peacemaker outfit home

John Cena had a blockbuster of a year in 2021. Most importantly, he made his much awaited return to WWE – this time not for just a one-off appearance but a full fledged feud against the Universal Champion Roman Reigns. The Leader of Cenation returned to the company in the final moments of 2021 Money in the Bank.
Cena feuded against the Tribal Chief for an entire month and the rivalry concluded at Summerslam – with Cena ending up on the losing side. But this wasn’t all. He experienced immense success in his Hollywood career too. The 16-time WWE World Champion was seen in not just one, but two massive blockbuster ensembles.
John Cena first appeared as Jakob Toretto in F9, which was a part of the iconic Fast & Furious series. He even got the opportunity of a Superhero suit, as he appeared as Peacemaker in The Suicide Squad. Fans got to see a new side to Cena as they were used to seeing him in raunchy comedies.
The fans loved John Cena’s portrayal of Peacemaker so much that the studio greenlit a television series on the character. Throughout the promotions of the superhero flick as well as the TV series, Cena was regularly seen in his superhero costume. While appearing on Jimmy Kimmel Live, director James Gunn revealed that how often he has asked Cena to stop taking the costume home!
“By the way, John stole this outfit. I just want to tell everybody that we have asked him. Because after we shot The Suicide Squad, we shot the Peacemaker TV series, and I kept telling him to quit taking the outfit. I know it doesn’t look like it’s that expensive, but these costumes are tens of thousands of dollars to put together,” mentioned James Gunn.

When the Leader of Cenation was signed on to play the role of Peacemaker, he had believed that it would just be a one-off thing. But the fans loved him so much in the role that Cena got the opportunity to headline the first TV series in the DC Extended Universe. The show aired in 2022 January and its season finale aired some time ago.
But it seems like the fans cant just get enough of John Cena as Peacemaker. Seeing the massive love that the fans have shown to the show’s first season, the studio has now ordered the next season of the show. While Cena is currently occupied with other projects, the second season of Peacemaker is expected to arrive soon.
