BREAKING: India’s own Jinder Mahal gets a shot at the Intercontinental Championship, next week on Smackdown

On tonight’s edition of Smackdown, Jinder Mahal was seen speaking to Adam Pearce, demanding a shot at the Intercontinental Championship against Ricochet, owing to his resume which highlights him as a former WWE Champion as well forme United States Champion. It looks like WWE has finally made the match official for next week’s Smackdown.

The newly-crowned champion Ricochet only had to defend his championship against The Great Liberator after capturing the Intercontinental Title from Sami Zayn in March with the assistance of Johnny Knoxville. He was also unable to attend this year’s WrestleMania and this week’s SmackDown due to personal obligations. However, it appears that the champion has returned. Ricochet will defend his title against former WWE Champion Jinder Mahal on next week’s show, as announced on the most recent episode of SmackDown.

Jinder has won the WWE and US Championships. Since losing both titles and having two knee problems, he hasn’t had a steady run. Despite not having attended any recent WWE events, The Modern Day Maharaja made his presence known by calling out the current IC champion in a tweet earlier followed by an interaction with Adam Pearce demanding the same:

It would be surprising if the Indian origin Jinder Mahal walks out as the new Intercontinental Champion as it has just been weeks since Ricochet won the title. However, if WWE has planned a push for the Modern Day Maharaja, it wouldn’t be long before we see Jinder Mahal flaunting his gold.

The two superstars last squared off in an edition of Monday Night Raw back in 2019 with the high-flying Richochet securing the win. It wouldn’t be as easy for Ricochet this time with Shanky being at ringside, but Ricochet can take maximum benefit from the Champion’s advantage.
