“REJECTED!”: John Cena reveals he missed out on several Marvel and DC Superhero roles
John Cena
John Cena made his much awaited return to WWE at Money in the Bank 2021. It was one of the busiest years for him in terms of his Hollywood career, yet he managed to take a month out of his busy scheduled to return to professional wrestling. He spent a month feuding against the Universal Champion Roman Reigns.
With the biggest babyface ever of the company colliding against the biggest Heel in the company today – Reigns vs Cena was easily one of the biggest feuds of 2021. The WWE Universe got a chance to relive the old days when the 16-time WWE World Champion was a regular fixture on WWE television.
John Cena started making sporadic appearances on WWE, after he decided to switch careers and move to Hollywood. Last year, he starred in two of the biggest movies of the year, The Suicide Squad and F9: The Fast Saga. Between these releases he had gotten a month off and decided to return to WWE!
The year even marked John Cena’s entry into the ever-growing genre of Superheroes. He got the opportunity to play the role of Peacemaker in The Suicide Squad. The fans loved him and the character so much that he was given his own TV series – which was renewed recently for a second season! But while talking to Josh Horowitz on the Happy Sad Confused Podcast, the Leader of Cenation revealed that he has been rejected multiple times for such roles.
“I can’t tell you how many superhero roles I’ve been rejected for. Shazam is certainly one. There was a brief try at the Deadpool Universe. Rejection. There was a few in the Marvel Universe. Rejected. So, I kept trying,” revealed the Leader of Cenation.
John Cena cried during filming The Peacemaker
John Cena headlined The Peacemaker TV series – which was also the first series in the DC Extended Universe. The show started airing in January and recently aired its season finale. Considering the rave reviews that the show received, the studio greenlit the next season for the same. During a Twitter Watch Party, the director James Gunn revealed the moment Cena cried.
“In the hospital scene, John Cena broke out in tears when he took Jenn Holland’s [playing the role of Emilia Harcourt] hand and she started crying. The camera wasn’t on him. Probably the most vulnerable moment in Harcourt’s life” – tweeted James Gunn.
