“Not my choice”: John Cena reveals he wants to play a new role in WWE

Cena
John Cena is one of the biggest names in the professional wrestling industry. Jointly with Ric Flair, he is the most successful Superstar in the history of WWE – with 16 World Championship reigns. He has been with the company for over two decades and has played a crucial role in making WWE the global brand that it is today.
Cena was signed by WWE (then known as WWF) in 2001. He gained immense popularity when he debuted the trash-talking rapper – Doctor of Thugnomics character. While that was a very popular character, it was his Superman-like gimmick of the “Leader of Cenation” which was the most loved. With this character, the company went all out and pushed him as the face of the company for over a decade!
As the Leader of Cenation, John Cena has been a babyface for a major part of his career. But the current storylines seems to suggest that Heels are the new heroes as we can see from the popularity of stars like Roman Reigns, Charlotte Flair and Randy Orton. In fact, fans had expected Cena to finally turn heel during his recent feud against Reigns at Summerslam.
But now an interesting piece of news has come to light – its not just the fans who are awaiting the Heel turn. But John Cena himself wants to turn to the darker side, as he revealed during an interview with GQ. But he also feels that it is not his but Vince McMahon‘s decision. Cena strongly feels that the turn has story potential which extend for years.
“Would it have been great to be able to mess with the flaws of WWE John Cena? Oh my goodness, I think there’s another 10 years’ worth of story in there, but it’s not my choice. I don’t run the company,” – mentioned the 16-time World Champion.
John Cena is currently headlining his own series

Since the last few years, Cena has stopped being a full time professional wrestler. He continues to make sporadic appearances for the company and has started focussing more on his Hollywood career. 2021 was a massive year for John Cena, the Hollywood star. He headlined two massive franchisees – The Suicide Squad and Fast & Furious.
But this wasn’t all. His character from The Suicide Squad – Peacemaker was so immensely loved by his fans that it was given the green light for its own TV series. Titled “The Peacemaker”, the series is being headlined by Cena and is also the first series part of the DC Extended Universe.
