Without a doubt, Vince McMahon is arguably the most influential figure in professional wrestling. Many consider him to be a pioneer of the industry, playing a pivotal role in booming the business during the 1980s. The career of the WWE head honcho has had its ups and downs throughout as well. Netflix has been working on a project revolving around the life of Vince McMahon.

From the steroid scandal to the recent hush money allegations, it’s safe to say there’s a lot to cover in the upcoming Vince McMahon series. Furthermore, it may have the potential to be explosive as well. Needless to say, fans will have to wait for the episodic documentary that Netflix will release. However, the release date is still up in the air.

Recently, Bill Simmons, executive producer of Vince McMahon’s documentary, provided an update on the release. Moreover, he revealed that it may be the best project he has worked on. Here are three things you need to know about Vince McMahon’s upcoming Netflix series:

1. Vince McMahon lacks decision making power in the filming process

By far, the most important takeaway from Simmons’ most recent interview is that Vince McMahon will not have any altering rights in the final edit of his documentary. While speaking to Bloomberg, the Executive Producer of the series answered questions about whether the WWE Executive Chairman would get to see it before it came out.

“Not the giving notes on the final cut part. He gets to look at clips,” [H/T: Fightful] Bill Simmons answered. Therefore, every single controversy surrounding the 78-year-old might be covered. Mr. McMahon does not hold the authority to put forth his creative input in the filming of the series.

2. The Netflix series was set to release in 2022

During WWE’s third-quarter call in 2020, the announcement of the Netflix project on Vince McMahon included unveiling Executive Producer Bill Simmons and Director Chris Smith as part of the series. In a 2021 interview, Stephanie McMahon claimed that the Netflix series would air in 2022.

Later, reports emerged that the streaming platform no longer held the rights to the documentary. Despite that, Simmons confirmed that the series will air on Netflix. As of now, there is not yet an announcement regarding the official release date for the heavily anticipated chronicle series.

3. The project is not a documentary but a docuseries

The in-depth, detailed look at the life of Mr. McMahon will not be a documentary. Instead, it will be released as a multi-part docuseries. Hence, the Netflix series presenting Vince McMahon’s career will have different chapters covering his journey in the professional wrestling industry.

Whether or not the episodes are chronological is unknown at the moment. However, fans can expect the docuseries to cover the most important talking points from the billionaire’s 40-year run at the top. According to Bill Simmons, the series will maintain a “little more old school 30 for 30” model, seemingly confirming that it will be a docuseries.
