The Grevin Museum in Paris unveiled a wax statue of the Hollywood megastar, Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson, last week. In no time, the wax figure became the subject of ridicule on social media. Netizens alleged the museum artisans of “white-washing” the wax model of Dwayne Johnson. Joining in the herd, Johnson has also requested the museum team to make some significant improvements to the statue.
The 51-year-old took to his Instagram and reposted a roast video of James Andre Jefferson Jr. pillorying the wax sculpture. The comedian said that the statue made him feel lowkey offended. Moreover, he satirically ridiculed the statue and said:
It looks like he works at the H & R block or something...Is this how y'all felt when ya lost the lil' mermaid? I understand. It looks like The Rock ain't never seen the sun in his life, it looks like The Rock is a part of the Royal Family."
The Jumanji actor also captioned his post and brought it to public notice that he will be reaching out to Grevin Museum authorities to remodel his wax figure, starting with the skin complexion. He wrote:
For the record, I’m going to have my team reach out to our friends at Grevin Museum, in Paris France ?? so we can work at “updating” my wax figure here with some important details and improvements- starting with my skin color ?✊???.
The wrestler-turned-actor further noted that the next time he visits Paris, he would make sure to stop by the museum and have a drink with his wax structure. By ethnicity, The Rock is a half-Samoan and half-black man. Thus, the museum authorities faced the ire of netizens, as the waxwork nowhere represents either of the ethnicities.
Paris-based Grevin Museum issues statement after unveiling Dwayne Johnson’s wax statue
The Grevin Museum in Paris, France attracts over 800,000 visitors on a yearly basis. The museum features a whopping 250 celebrities’ wax statues. Recently, the museum unveiled the wax figure of WWE and Hollywood superstar, Dwayne Johnson. However, the wax structure almost instantly sparked public outrage for lightening Johnson’s skin tone.
Nonetheless, the museum authorities recently issued a statement on their official website. The press release states the challenges faced by sculptor, Stephane Barret, to complete Johnson’s wax figure. It was noted that the sculptor had to rely on the actor’s photos and videos to carve out a realistic structure of The Rock. Furthermore, the artist team also hunted down the gym to find someone with the same measurements as The Rock.
Sharing their experience of doing The Rock’s wax statue, sculptor Stephane Barret said on the official website of the museum:
When I was told I was going to work on Dwayne Johnson, I was really excited to be able to create this celebrity. It's true that it's always impressive to make people of this size. We were lucky enough to find someone who physically matched Dwayne Johnson's build and height. That really allowed us to get it right.
