Dave Bautista, popularly known in the wrestling world as Batista, has made it big in Hollywood after bidding adieu to his glorious WWE career. He has been associated with the much-loved role of Drax in the Guardians of the Galaxy franchise and the extended Marvel Cinematic Universe. The James Gunn-directed franchise will come to an end on May 5, 2023, as announced by the director himself.
Batista has also revealed on The Ellen DeGeneres Show that the film will be his last appearance as Drax, killing all the hopes and speculations of him returning for future MCU films. The first trailer of the film dropped on December 2, 2022, leaving all the fans emotional.
In a recent interview with GQ, Batista briefly talked about his Hollywood career and his role as Drax. He holds a contrary belief to the masses as he seems to be more practical about leaving the franchise behind. “I’m so grateful for Drax. I love him,” Batista tells GQ, “But there’s a relief [that it’s over]. It wasn’t all pleasant. It was hard playing that role. The makeup process was beating me down. And I just don’t know if I want Drax to be my legacy—it’s a silly performance, and I want to do more dramatic stuff.”
Dave has shown his desire to work more with Denis Villeneuve. According to the popular personality himself, the Canadian director brings out the best in him. He has worked with him in the past in Blade Runner 2049 (2017) and Dune (2021). He told GQ that if he could be number one on the call sheet with Denis, he would do it for “f***ing free”.

WWE has given Hollywood multiple stars who have made it big in both industries. Hulk Hogan, Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson, John Cena, and Dave Bautista are some of the biggest names on the list. Batista has been making an appearance in TV shows both as himself and as a character since 2006. His film career started with the 2010 action films Wrong side of the Town and The Man with the Iron Fists (2012).
Guardians of the Galaxy (2014) was the first Blockbuster film featuring the 6-time world champion as Drax the Destroyer. Ever since then, he has starred in many big-budget films including Spectre (2015), Blade Runner 2049 (2017), Army of the Dead (2021), and Dune (2021). Recently he appeared in the Knives Out sequel Glass Onion, released in 2022.
With that being said, it seems like 2023 is all set to be a big year for Batista. He is already announced for multiple high-profile films like Guardians 3, Dune: Part Two, and M. Night Shyamalan’s Knock at the Cabin. The former WWE superstar wrestled his last match in 2019 against Triple H at WrestleMania 35. He announced his retirement after that and has shown no desire to return to the ring. Now, as he bids adieu to another iconic role of Drax, fans will have to wait a bit longer to witness the magic and power of Drax on the big screen on May 5.
