Bret Hart is one of the greatest wrestlers ever to have set foot in the squared circle. The Hitman was a face of the WWE in the 90s, with many sold-out arenas to his name. Hart was one of the few wrestlers who emphasized technical in-ring performance.

One of the best examples of Bret Hart showcasing his incredible technical in ring ability would be his match against Davey Boy Smith at SummerSlam 92. Smith wasn’t prepared for the match as he had spent weeks smoking crack cocaine with Jim “The Anvil” NiedHart, so during the event, Hart took matters into his own hands and called out the entire match move by move.

Hart is frequently mentioned when discussing some of the finest battles in WWE history, with his contests with Stone Cold Steve Austin, Shawn Michaels, and Curt Hennig being considered among the best in the company’s annals. One of the greatest rivalries in the history of the company has been recognized as Hart’s feud with Shawn Michaels, which even transcended to their personal lives.

Hart left the WWE on a bitter note following the Montreal Srewjob in 1997. Hart decided not to communicate with Michaels for the following 13 years since the betrayal had so deeply upset him. During a recent interview with The Ringer.com, Hart spoke about how he decided to put their differences behind them.

Even up until 2010, according to Hart, he had animosity for Shawn, but after seeing him compete in his final bout before retiring at WrestleMania 2010, he resolved to put the past behind them. Hart cited the fight between The Heartbreak Kid and The Undertaker as one of the best battles he had ever seen, which encouraged him to put their differences aside.

“We had our issues over the years. But I watched Undertaker and Shawn Michaels wrestle at one of the WrestleManias. Even then, I had such a bitterness towards Shawn, but I had to admit it was one of the greatest matches I ever watched. That’s where I ended up deciding to make friends with Shawn and bury the hatchet and all that.”

In the same interview, Bret Hart recalled how he shook hands with Shawn Michaels at WrestleMania 26 after his match. Hart said that it was very truthful and a moving experience for him. Hart stated that Shawn too wanted that off his back, and he took it off his back, describing it as the best resolution for both of them and they have been friends ever since.

“It was very truthful, that little storyline with me and Vince and Shawn. Me and Shawn making up in the ring (in 2010) and shaking hands and all that, that was all very real and very moving for me. And was not something that was orchestrated……We’ve been friends ever since.”
