Recent reports show that Brock Lesnar was supposed to bleed during his match against Cody Rhodes. Initially, there was a lot of debate online as to whether bleeding happened by accident during the match. The main event of Backlash 2023 was the first-ever match between Rhodes and Lesnar. These two have been brawling for the past month, to the point that security was involved multiple times throughout the month on Raw. Therefore, extreme violence was expected from the match.
Brock Lesnar hit an exposed turnbuckle during the main event and started bleeding instantly. Till the end of the match, Lesnar’s face was covered in blood, and he had a crimson mask. The former Universal Champion also took multiple Cross-Rhodes from Cody throughout the match. In general, bleeding is not allowed in WWE matches in recent times, but it was made clear by a report behind Fightful‘s paywall that the bleeding by Lesnar was pre-planned and not by accident.
The match overall was very gruesome and violent, as the fans expected it to be. Both competitors started brawling even before the match started and continued when the match began. The Beast hit Cody Rhodes with multiple F-5s, which are too devastating for other wrestlers to come back from. But The American Nightmare refused to give up and continued to power through.
In the end, Cody Rhodes won the match with a surprise roll-up. But it looks like this feud is not over, as a ‘surprise roll-up’ is not the best way to end a feud between two superstars WWE has Night of Champions coming up on May 27th in Jeddah, and they will be in need of big-level matches to promote the show to the highest level. Therefore, another Cody vs. Brock match at Jeddah would make a lot of sense.
Brock Lesnar’s opponents in the past year
Since his return to WWE in 2012, Brock Lesnar has only competed in matches for the WWE Championship. He has very rarely had a non-title match. Lesnar managed to have multiple successful title reigns during this period. The 10-time WWE Champion also had feuds with many greats, such as Triple H, John Cena, Randy Orton, etc
Until the SummerSlam 2022, Lesnar was feuding with the current champion, Roman Reigns, for the Universal Heavyweight Championship. But since he lost the last-man-standing match at SummerSlam, per stipulation, Lesnar is no longer allowed to challenge Reigns for his titles. Therefore, there has been a shift in Lesnar’s matches.
Brock had a match with Bobby Lashley at Crown Jewel and Elimination Chamber to end the feud on a losing note, as The All-Mighty defeated Lesnar to break the even score of 1-1 in their previous encounters. Moving on from that, Lesnar answered the challenge from MVP on behalf of the seven-foot giant Omos for WrestleMania. However, he defeated Omos in a quick match at WrestleMania 39 in Hollywood.
