AEWxNJPW Forbidden Door II is in the history books of AEW now. With a stacked match card, the event proved to be a huge success, being AEW’s first show outside the United States. The spectacular event in Toronto saw Bryan Danielson battle Kazuchika Okada in the main event in an outstanding match. Bryan surprised the fans when he entered the arena with his old theme song,“The Final Countdown” to bring back the nostalgia factor.
The popular theme song by the rock group Europe was used by Danielson during his time in ROH. Ever since the American Dragon joined AEW, fans have been wishing for it to return. It was reported earlier that Primary Wave Music has signed a deal with Joey Tempest (lead vocalist of Europe) to acquire some of his popular tracks. With this, it was rumored that AEW would purchase the rights of The Final Countdown theme song.
Tony Khan’s company had tried to purchase it earlier, directly from Tempest, in 2021, but was unsuccessful. It was way too expensive, as the usage of this theme was restricted to 20 times a year, costing more money than it should have. Nevertheless, “The Final Countdown” hit the fans with a different level of excitement, with the element of surprise working out for the fans at Forbidden Door.
The crowd seemed excited throughout his entrance. The fast-paced match had the fans hooked up but had a comparatively flat finish. Okada tapped out of Bryan’s LeBell Lock in the 27th minute of the match. Both being the top stars of their respective companies, no one had expected a clean finish, but Bryan Danielson’s aggressive input made the match fall in his favor. Watch the video here.
Bryan Danielson is injured after his high-profile match in Toronto
In an enthralling main event at AEWxNJPW: Forbidden Door II, Bryan Danielson emerged victorious against Kazuchika Okada. The finish of the match was not something fans had expected with Okada’s clear loss against The American Dragon. The match was outstanding but an unfortunate incident occurred with the AEW star.
Danielson has suffered a forearm fracture, with the recovery period stated to be 6-8 weeks. Bryan suffered this injury upon Okada’s elbow drop with the former’s arm positioned in the wrong way. However, his injury was overshadowed by his victory upon applying LeBell Lock on Kazuchika.
The former WWE star is not unfamiliar with injuries. His frequent injuries result in his occasional appearances on TV. The impact of the physical toll his body has taken was visible during his match. Moreover, he was seen restricting some of his moves and hyping up the crowd.
