This week on Monday Night Raw, Chad Gable had the biggest WWE match of his career. He went up against the longest-reigning Intercontinental Champion of the modern era, Gunther. Justifying their spot in the main event, both superstars had the best match of their trilogy. Although the uncalled commercial breaks hampered the match quality a bit, it was still a lot of fun to watch.

In what turned out to be one of the greatest closing stretches ever, Chad Gable wrestled his heart out against a defiant Ring General. However, it wasn’t enough to stop the untamed reign of the Austrian beast. Gunther followed up the powerbomb with a wicked clothesline to retain his title. As soon as Gable lost, his daughters, who were sitting in the front row, broke down in tears.

It was a painful sight to behold Chad Gable’s kids cry. Gunther now counts down until Friday to officially etch his name in the history books as the longest reigning Intercontinental Champion of any era, eclipsing the Honky Tonk Man. What a ride it has been for the Imperium leader! He captured the title from Ricochet back in June last year. Since then, it’s just been a matter of his resonating dominance.

Throughout his rivalry with Chad Gable, The Ring General was catching his shadow. It’s something that hasn’t been done in a while. The former Olympian had Gunther on his toes on numerous occasions. In fact, Gable was the one who handed the first-ever loss to the Imperium leader on the main roster. Needless to say, it took more than usual for Gunther to take down the Alpha Academy member.

Chad Gable is not done chasing the Intercontinental Title

Despite his heroics on Raw, Chad Gable lost against Gunther. However, it seems like he’s not giving up that easily. Following Raw, the 37-year-old was interviewed backstage. Admitting his loss as a tough pill to swallow, especially in front of his entire family, Chad vowed to seek redemption.

The Alpha Academy member said that he’s been through the nadir of his career during his time as an amateur. But that taught him to never give up. “I swear to everybody, on myself, on my career, that’s not the end. I swear to god I’m winning that championship.”

Keeping his tempo up, Chad Gable promised to eventually reclaim his shot at the Intercontinental Championship. He also manifested for Gunther to remain champion until the former earns his rematch. That is so because he would love to conquer arguably the greatest Intercontinentally champion of all time.

Chad Gable has looked like a million bucks over the past few months. He’s been a delight to watch for the WWE Universe. He has abundant potential and WWE will make sure to harness it and give him his moment. It’s just a matter of time until he wins his first singles title.
