Charlotte Flair made a shocking return to WWE after being off television since May. She continued her feud with Ronda Rousey, defeating her to bag the ultimate SmackDown Women’s Championship, immediately following her return to the professional scene. Rousey had just defended the title against Raquel Rodriguez, only to lose it minutes later to none other than Charlotte. This was her seventh SmackDown Women’s Championship and 14th world title victory.
The new SmackDown Women’s Champion made an appearance on the recent episode of WWE’s The Bump. While talking about her return, she revealed that she got emotional after witnessing overwhelming love and support from the crowd. That’s not all, as per the WWE Superstar herself, she felt that her legacy was cemented and simply enjoyed the wholesome moment.
After winning her 14th world title, Charlotte Flair jumped over the barricade and celebrated with the WWE universe. While continuing the conversation on The Bump, she addressed the crowd’s reaction and her feelings about her triumphant return.
She said, “Seeing everyone cheer, I was just blown away. I’m usually not in that role where everyone is just so excited to see me because I’ve never [been] away, I’ve never had a break … I feel like because I was so consistent, my skill, my talent, my presence, was kind of taken for granted.”
Continuing her train of thought, she further added, “To come back and be in the audience and just see so many happy faces, and not just boos or having to be arrogant, just being me, I was enjoying the moment as not feeling like I had to put on my armor and be arrogant or boast about what I’ve done. I was just literally in the moment.”
Charlotte Flair returns to WWE after 8 months
Charlotte’s last match before her return was on May 8, 2022, at WrestleMania Backlash, where she lost her SmackDown women’s title in an “I Quit” match to Ronda Rousey. The rivalry between the two superstars goes way back to Survivor Series 2018, where they met in the squared circle for the first time.
The exact reason for Charlotte’s absence is not revealed by any official sources. Most probably, she took some time off to marry her now husband, former WWE and current AEW star, Andrade el Idolo. The former NXT champion confirmed this in an interview with Mas Lucha in October. He said that Charlotte is taking some time off due to personal reasons, which she will specify in the future.
Furthermore, reports of Charlotte having backstage heat with the Raw superstar and her former best friend Becky Lynch began making the rounds on the internet, eliciting a slew of reactions. However, it is still unclear whether this is a work or a shoot. But as of now, it seems that WWE is building up another Charlotte vs Ronda feud, leading up to the Royal Rumble.
