Chelsea Green and Piper Niven have been the WWE Women’s Tag Team Champions for 100+ days now. However, their title reign remained lackluster, as they have not been defending it on the main roster. That is about to change as Green and Niven will be defending their tag title for the first time in over 100 days.

Natalya and Tegan Nox battled in a four-way tag team match to become the number one contender for the Women’s Tag Team Championship. They will battle Chelsea Green and Piper Niven for the tag titles. The current champions last defended their titles against Chase University on Night 2 of NXT Halloween Havoc.

It remains to be their sole title defense. The match against Nox and Natalya will mark their first defense on the main roster in three months. Chelsea Green and Sonya Deville had a five-match losing streak before winning a tag title opportunity. They went on to win the tag team championship, defeating Liv Morgan and Raquel Rodriguez.

Unfortunately, Sonya Deville’s injury made Chelsea Green conduct an audition for a new teammate. Piper Niven was the one who declared herself Green’s new partner and became one-half of the tag team champions. Nonetheless, they have been wandering directionless on the main roster.

Chelsea Green and Piper Niven have been feuding with multiple superstars but have never defended their championships. This time, their championship reign is in jeopardy as the Women’s Tag Team Titles will be up for grabs. Green already has a victory over Natalya; now it will be interesting to see if she can defeat her again in a tag team battle.

Why is the Women’s Tag Team Championship cursed?

WWE introduced a new Women’s Tag Team Championship in late 2018. The team of Bayley and Sasha Banks became the inaugural champions on the main roster. However, it suffered a disastrous fate when WWE’s top stars, Naomi and Sasha Banks, who were the Tag Team Champions, relinquished the titles and left the company.

From this point, things went downhill as the title became ill-famed for many things. Superstars who held those tag titles suffered injuries and had to vacate the championships. When Ronda Rousey and Shayna Baszler won the championships, reports circulated that Rousey suffered an injury. It delayed the title-unification match with Alba Fyre and Isla Dawn.

The two former UFC stars had a lackluster reign as champions. Later on, when Rousey and Baszler dropped the title to Liv Morgan and Raquel Rodriguez, Morgan suffered an injury. The injuries have become the norm since then. When Chelsea Green and Sonya Devillie won the championship, Devillie suffered an injury. She has been on hiatus since then.

The championship is considered a curse by the fans due to all the injuries the title holders go through. It will be safe to say that the current Women’s Tag Team Champions are wandering directionless on the main roster. There are many reasons why the titles are considered cursed by the WWE Universe.
