In 2016, Randy Orton and Brock Lesnar faced off in a singles match at SummerSlam, which ended with a very uncomfortable finish. Brock Lesnar had repeatedly hit Randy with bare elbow strikes to the head, to the point where Orton had started bleeding from his temple area. While watching this, several people objected to the way Brock Lesnar took care of the business. One of them was WWE veteran and former AEW Champion Chris Jericho.

Jericho recounted the incident in several podcasts and interviews, mentioning that he was in the gorilla position during the match. He observed Lesnar delivering what appeared to be legitimate elbow shots to Randy Orton, which angered him as he was unsure if it was planned or if Lesnar was acting independently.

Le Champion clarified that bare strikes to the temple area on the head can seriously injure a person, even causing death. This is when he referenced, ” He [Brock Lesnar] was doing a match with Randy Orton and he was basically just butchering him with elbows to the head. And I didn’t know if it was planned or not… but elbows to the side of the head can kill you. Ever heard of David and Goliath? That’s how Goliath died, from getting a fuc*ing rock to his temple.” Therefore, worried for Randy Orton’s safety, Chris Jericho confronted Brock Lesnar as soon as Lesnar returned backstage.

The confrontation didn’t escalate into a physical altercation between the former champions. Jericho admitted his readiness to fight Lesnar if necessary but emphasized that he harbored no animosity towards him. He clarified that they had a single issue, which they eventually resolved.

As both superstars come from a wrestling background, Angle saw an opportunity and challenged Lesnar to a real match. What followed was a 15-minute amateur wrestling contest where Angle got the upper hand.

He praised Lesnar’s in-ring skills and acknowledged the tough competition he faced from the Beast. While he couldn’t defeat Lesnar, they consistently delivered exciting performances for the viewers whenever they squared off in the ring.
