The Tuesday Night War between WWE and AEW ended with NXT beating Dynamite in the ratings. Since then, the Jacksonville-based promotion’s owner, Tony Khan, has launched scathing attacks against his rival promotion. Recently, Chris Jericho joined in and sent a stern warning to his former company.
In an interview with The Messenger, the wrestling veteran seemingly dismissed AEW’s loss against WWE. Moreover, Chris Jericho took a subtle shot at WWE for bringing back The Undertaker and John Cena on NXT. According to Y2J, Dynamite produced a better all-round show on the night before claiming that the defeat didn’t affect him.
“This would be like a football game where you bring in all of your top stars from years prior and beat the other team 30-26. It’s like a video game. Let’s bring in Tom Brady from five years ago and then play him for one game against Chris Jericho. OK, you guys won, but you only won 30-26,” Chris Jericho said. Evidently, the Lionheart was not at all pleased with WWE’s way of “crushing” its competition.
Despite the brutal comments, the legend acknowledged that the rivalry is beneficial for both wrestling promotions. “It’s good for the fans; it’s good for the companies,” he said. Needless to say, the Tuesday Night competition between NXT and Dynamite helped WWE and AEW put on one of the best shows of the year.
Chris Jericho defends Tony Khan amid AEW owner’s online rampage
Tony Khan was in the middle of controversy last week when he posted a series of critical attacks on the WWE. As a result, reports emerged that the people in the company wanted the AEW President to “take a break” from social media. However, Chris Jericho isn’t one of those superstars who believes the same.
Recently, the former WWE superstar opined on the entire situation. During an interview with The Messenger, the 52-year-old defended Tony Khan’s actions. Chris Jericho stated that his boss can do whatever he wants, given that he created the company.
“Say what you want. Whatever. I think it’d be worse if I said that stuff because I’m not the boss, you know? Tony Khan owns AEW. He can do what he wants. I’m not going to tell him no,” the veteran said. Needless to say, Chris Jericho has always backed Tony Khan publicly.
