Chris Masters was a household name in WWE during his initial run in the mid-2000s. Masterpiece had a great start as a heel in the top pro wrestling company in the world. The former WWE superstar was slated to win multiple titles in the promotion. However, he missed out on these opportunities due to unfortunate circumstances.

In a recent conversation with So catch, Chris Masters revealed that he had many “missed opportunities” during his time in WWE. He looked back on his tag team run with Carlito in 2006. According to Chris, they were slated to win the tag team gold at WrestleMania. However, the day before, they were told that they weren’t winning the match. Elaborating on the cause behind their failed tag team pursuit, Masters said, “it wasn’t because of anything that we did, it was because of the Spirit Squad and something they had to do there, but we didn’t think much of it because it was early.”

Looking back on his mid-card run as a singles competitor, Chris Masters had some similar regrets. His push was again scrapped due to his struggles with addiction. Talking about the time he was supposed to win the Intercontinental title, he said, “I had developed [an] addiction and I had gone to rehab, and that was literally right when [I was supposed to win the IC title]. If true, I even watched the match where it was supposed to happen. It made 100% sense that it was supposed to be me, watching it, because the outcome didn’t make sense. So yeah, that one hurt a little bit.”

Initially, when Chris Masters signed with WWE, he worked with its developmental territory, OVW, for a couple of years. In 2005, WWE started running vignettes leading up to the debut of ‘The Masterpiece’ Chris Masters. The Raw superstar started running “The Masterlock challenge” where he claimed that his version of the Full Nelson is unbreakable. Continuing his momentum, Masters went into a feud with John Cena and Kurt Angle over the WWE championship.

In the end, the world title always eluded the former WWE superstar before he was released in 2007. The Masterpiece eventually returned to the company after a brief venture on the independent circuit. This second run, however, was mostly in the middle and lower cards. In the last days of his WWE career, Chris Masters was rarely featured on WWE TV, wrestling mostly at house shows. Since then, the 40-year-old superstar has wrestled in Impact, NWA, and other independent promotions.
