Next Monday, CM Punk returns to the wrestling haven where he dropped the jaws back at Survivor Series: WarGames last year. He’s going to be in front of a packed house at the Allstate Arena in Chicago. And on top of that, the 45-year-old had a piece of exciting news to share on Raw this week.
Giving a sneak peek at his road to recovery from torn triceps, Punk confirmed that no matter if he gets the invite or not, he’ll be at WrestleMania 40. The City of Brotherly Love, Philadelphia, is where it all boils down on April 6 and 7. And as Punk said, the initial four letters of the city make up his first name, Phil. So how would he not be there? There have been rampant rumors about The Best in the World’s potential role at The Show of Shows.
And it appears like WWE does have something up its sleeve for him. The fans may get a clear insight into what Punk could do at WrestleMania when he returns home next week. The Second City Saint has been out of action since he got blown up at the Royal Rumble. His dreams to headline WrestleMania were dashed, and a teary-eyed Punk turned up to Raw to announce the injury.
Had it not been for the mishap, the fans would’ve seen CM Punk challenging Seth Rollins for the World Heavyweight title at WrestleMania 40. That was the plan until they had to make a pivot. Drew McIntyre was the one who accepted being in Punk’s shoes with open arms. And boy, did he justify being there? He sure did, as the crowd reactions suggest.
Drew McIntyre is craving a SummerSlam showdown against CM Punk
At one point, when CM Punk had been back for a few weeks, it appeared like pitting him against Seth Rollins would be a no-brainer.
However, considering how Drew McIntyre has voluntarily embraced the onus to disintegrate Punk whenever his name comes up, The Scottish Warrior feels like the most intriguing choice for the return feud of The Best in the World.
Recently, the Scot sat down to do an interview with the Gorilla Position. McIntyre was asked about a potential clash with The Straight Edge Superstar at SummerSlam this year.
I’m worried he’s gonna injure something else during rehab. Man’s made of glass. I want that match, I really want that match.Drew McIntyre on CM Punk
Though McIntyre welcomed the idea of it, he just hoped Punk wouldn’t break himself further while rehabbing from his torn triceps. McIntyre said that he’s made of glass. Hence, further instigating The Second City Saint and his fans, who are anticipating his comeback.
