In a major development on Tuesday, WWE bestowed exclusive media rights for its flagship show, Monday Night Raw, on Netflix. The global OTT platform’s decade-long agreement with WWE will see the red brand moving out of linear television for the first time in 31 years. The world is reacting to this groundbreaking announcement, and so is CM Punk. The Best in the World shared his initial reaction on one of his Instagram stories.

Punk did a little wordplay with Netflix’s tagline, Netflix and Chill, and instead wrote, “Netflix and Phil.” The Second City Saint was one of many superstars to have broken the ice on the historic partnership. It was previously reported that CM Punk’s WWE return opened the door for conversations between WWE and WBD. Though several meetings were held between the higher-ups of both conglomerates, it wasn’t enough to close a deal.

Nonetheless, Netflix’s foray into the realm of sports entertainment, especially WWE, is being seen as positive among fans. For instance, the Reed Hastings-owned company has over 70 million subscribers solely based in the United States and Canada. That roughly accounts for one-third of Netflix’s global reach and will put wrestling content in front of such a gargantuan audience.

The over-the-top streaming service will commence streaming WWE Raw on its platform in January 2025. Moreover, it’s believed that the subscribers will obtain an ad-free viewing experience as part of the deal. By and large, CM Punk will lead a stacked field of superstars on the said platform as soon as Netflix begins its tenure with WWE. The streaming platform will be entitled to cut ties with WWE midway, i.e., after 5 years, or they could extend it for another 10 years.

CM Punk will compete in this year’s Royal Rumble match

This Saturday, CM Punk will wrestle in his first televised match ever since returning to WWE at Survivor Series. He’ll join 29 other men in his quest to book a main event berth for WrestleMania. As of now, the 45-year-old is the odds-on favorite to emerge as the winner.

However, he could encounter a resilient effort from Cody Rhodes, with whom he traded barbs on Raw this week. Punk dug deep to say that he’s more of the American Dream than Cody was. In response, Rhodes mentioned Punk’s infamous pipe bomb and affirmed how The Straight Edge Superstar dropped the ball.

Both superstars almost got physical right at the end but managed to keep a clean slate. However, there would be no one to stop Punk and Cody from getting in each other’s way at the Royal Rumble.
