CM Punk continues to be in the headlines even after AEW terminated him for the backstage altercation he had at All In. Now that he is no longer under AEW’s contract, fans are wondering if CM Punk might actually return to WWE after nine long years.
While talking on his Hall of Fame podcast, WWE Hall of Famer Booker T gave his opinion on CM Punk. He said, “Don’t think [CM Punk will return to WWE] at all, I don’t see that happening. Go back and look at some of Punk’s quotes, about WCW. Excuse me about WWE over the last seven or eight years. Nothing. Punk’s. Nothing positive. And like, my thing was, I always said. You never know when you might want to cross that bridge again.”
According to Booker T, Punk has always been negative about WWE in the past few years. He compared that with his own experience. The WWE veteran said that when he had his problems with the company, he left to work with TNA. However, he did not go in public and never badmouthed the Stamford-based promotion.
“That is because you never know when you might need to come back to WWE,” Booker T said. The WWE Hall of Famer thinks that Punk has rubbed a lot of people the wrong way. Therefore, it will be a difficult task for everyone in the company if the higher-ups manage to bring him back.
However, Punk’s stardom is undeniable. Therefore, WWE might capitalize on this and accrue profit from his presence in the company. They can set up numerous huge matchups for him on his potential return.
CM Punk’s termination and possible WWE return were discussed backstage in WWE
The wrestling industry broke down when AEW released a statement announcing that they had fired CM Punk. The same night, WWE was hosting Payback. Sources report that many superstars backstage at the event talked about the possibility of having Punk in WWE. They believed that this could be a chance to make some big money.
Not everyone agreed with this idea, as some superstars were reportedly against the idea of bringing Punk back. However, the report from PWInsider also stated that this was not a call for the superstars to take. Therefore, they will also have to wait for the management to make a decision. One match discussed for Punk if he returned to WWE was against Kevin Owens.
According to reports, Punk wanted to get out of his AEW contract in December of last year. He also showed interest in returning to the Royal Rumble in 2023 and facing Owens at WrestleMania 39. This was reported to take place in the main event of Night One of Mania. But these plans were never put into action. Owens, however, did main event Night One, winning the tag titles with Sami Zayn defeating The Usos.
