WWE reportedly believes Cody Rhodes would return sooner than expected
Cody Rhodes is out for months from in-ring competition
‘The American Nightmare‘ Cody Rhodes recently went to a war against Seth ‘Freakin’ Rollins inside of Hell in a Cell with a torn pectoral muscle putting on a performance of a lifetime which led to many wrestling veterans believe that this will probably go down as one of the “gutsiest” performances in the history of professional wrestling.
Adding to the glory, Dave Meltzer of Wrestling Observer Newsletter also awarded Rollins Vs. Rhodes Hell in a Cell match with a 5-star rating which made this as the 1st main-roster match since John Cena Vs. CM Punk which took place at Money in the Bank 2011 for the WWE World Heavyweight Championship to get a complete 5 star rating.
The following night on Monday Night Raw, Cody Rhodes revealed his injury and WWE mentioned that Rhodes will undergo a surgery later that week on Thursday in Alabama to surgically repair his torn pectoral muscle. The time- frame given for Cody Rhodes recovery was 9 months, WWE announced the following week.
However, per Wrestling Observer most of the WWE employees expect Rhodes to return sooner than later and they’re of the belief that it won’t take 9 freakin months to completely heal up his injured pectoral muscle.
The most ideal scenario will be Cody Rhodes making his WWE return at the next year’s Royal Rumble entering at number 30 with a massive crowd pop and winning the whole damn thing outplaying his opponents. That would earn himself a right to challenge for the World Championship in the main-event of Wrestlemania 39. One possibility being internally discussed mentioned that his comeback might be similar to that of Triple H’s 2001/02 return.
Seth Rollins was the perfect return opponent for Cody Rhodes
Cody Rhodes’ WWE return was potentially the biggest crossover in wrestling history till date especially considering that he was an EVP at AEW. But all of a sudden everything changed around sometime around March when Cody and his wife Brandi announced their AEW departure.
The biggest question after his WWE return was how Cody would be booked in this run. The doubts faded soon as Seth Rollins began a personal rivalry with Rhodes starting with a loss at Wrestlemania when Cody returned as Vince McMahon’s surprise opponent for him. Next, both men locked horns at the Wrestlemania Backlash premium-live-event where the former AEW star once again emerged victorious taking Rollins’ rage to the next level.
Then, Rollins and Rhodes finally decided to settle their differences once and for all inside of the unforgiving Hell in a Cell structure which was billed as the most personal chapter of their incredible triology. At the event, Rhodes defeated Rollins with an already torn pec in a brutal 5-star classic.
With this win, Rhodes ended his feud with Seth Rollins but the following week on Raw when Cody Rhodes announced his injury to the WWE Universe, Rollins came out to congratulate him and he also said that “Dusty is very very proud of his baby boy right now” which made Cody emotional and after that Rollins headed back to the gorilla position.
While Cody was walking to the back, Rollins blindsidedly attacked him with a Sledgehammer on the entrance stage. Well, it’s clear now that their feud is far from over yet and they will definitely face each other atleast one more time at some point in future.
