It’s been 5 months now that Cody Rhodes has been out of action from the WWE. Rhodes, who suffered a pectoral injury prior to his bout at Hell in a Cell against Seth Rollins, fought at the event despite his injury. Cody Rhodes’ received wide acclaim for his performance at Hell in a Cell, and the match was awarded a 5-star rating by Dave Meltzer, his first 5-star rating since 2011. Rhodes went under the knife after a few days, and the recovery time was stated as 9 months.
The current update, according to the Wrestling Newsletter Observer, is that Cody Rhodes has been healing really quickly and won’t be talking nine months for his return to the company. Dave Meltzer had stated that The American Nightmare, who is said to be recovering fast from his injury, would be expected to return at the Day 1 PLE. With the Day 1 PLE now being cancelled, we can expect him to return at the Royal Rumble itself.
NXT Superstar Odyssey Jones recently appeared on the Wrestling the Rap Game Podcast, where he picked up Cody Rhodes as his favorite to beat Roman Reigns for the Undisputed Universal Championship. The WWE Universe was delighted when Cody Rhodes returned to the WWE and his star meter is definitely high as of now so Odyssey has a great pick.
“I feel like right now, Cody [Rhodes] is one of the only people that’s kind of built to beat Roman, so that would kind of be cool.”
Why is Cody Rhodes one of the favorites to beat Roman Reigns?
Cody Rhodes, a second-generation wrestler, was inspired to pursue the sport by his father, Dusty Rhodes. Although Dusty Rhodes is recognized as one of the top stars of all time, he was never the WWE Champion.
The Rhodes family has never had a WWE World Champion. Now that Cody Rhodes has one goal in mind—winning the WWE Championship—we could see him face Reigns when he makes a comeback.
During his initial tenure in the WWE, Cody Rhodes solidified his reputation as a notable wrestler by winning the intercontinental Championship twice. In addition, he twice claimed the World Tag Team Championship. Due to creative differences, Rhodes departed WWE in 2016. Before joining the AEW, he competed for the Independent Circuit, Ring of Honor, Impact Wrestling, and NJPW.
