Cody Garrett Runnels Rhodes popularly known around the wrestling business as ‘The American Nightmare’ Cody Rhodes is a former AEW EVP and currently works for WWE. Cody Rhodes always had wrestling in his blood as his father is Dusty Rhodes who is a WWE Hall of Famer and one of the most respected wrestlers of all time. Cody’s first involvement in wrestling came when he became the referee for his father’s promotion Turnbuckle Championship Wrestling promotion. Cody signed for WWE in 2006 and was sent to OVW as part of the developmental contract.

In his debut match Cody Rhodes lost to Pat Buck and then formed a tag team with Shawn Spears and began feuding for the OVW Southern Tag Team Championship. After spending a year in promotional wrestling Cody made his main roster debut for WWE in 2007 appearing with his father Dusty Rhodes. Cody Rhodes during his time with WWE played different gimmicks like stardust, dashing and undashing  and was a prolific tag team wrestler winning the WWE Tag Team Championship 6 times in his WWE career. He also won the Intercontinental championship twice as a single’s wrestler.

Cody Rhodes after having issues with the WWE creative department and his very unimpressive  booking led to the superstar leaving the company. After his departure from WWE Cody started appearing on the independent circuit feuding with the likes of Zack Saber Jr., Drew McIntyre, Jay Lethal and many more. Cody became part of the infamous Bullet Club when he teamed up with Young Bucks and also went on win the ROH World Six-Man Tag Team Championship, along side the Bucks. Cody Rhodes who was wrestling for promotions all over world also defeated  Robinson and won the IWGP United States Championship.

Cody in 2018 signed for All Elite Wrestling as the Executive Vice President and also became the inaugural AEW TNT Champion. Due to contractual issues Cody Rhodes left AEW and made his surprising comeback to the WWE at Wrestlemania 38 as a surprise opponent for Seth Rollins.

The Undertaker who has been in WWE for the longest time has had his say on the ‘The American Nightmare’. The Undertaker in an interview with Justin Barrasso of “Sports Illustrated, the deadman reflected on how Cody after his departure from WWE has developed and established himself as a singles wrestler. The Undertaker and went on to say :

In his own way, Rhodes certainly has separated himself from his legendary father. Cody made his exit from WWE back in 2016 and went on to establish himself through the independents and promotions like Ring Of Honor and New Japan. He then played a major part in turning the tide of wrestling history by helping to orchestrate All In in Chicago back in 2018 before helping form All Elite Wrestling with the Young Bucks, Kenny Omega, and Tony Khan.

The Undertaker went on to heap praise on the former Intercontinental Champion:

“The first time Cody came through, he was trying to figure out who he was. Now he knows. Yes, he keeps the legacy alive. His dad was ‘The American Dream,’ he’s ‘The American Nightmare’. That’s cool how he’s merged that, and he’s pulled a few things from Dusty’s repertoire. Cody is his own man now, and he believes in himself. I don’t think he did the first time through. Sometimes it takes going away to someplace else, and his time away served him well.”

Cody Rhodes is currently out of action because of a damaged pectoral muscle and after his return from injury is expected to take the WWE by storm.
