Gunther and Chad Gable wrestled the third match of their trilogy for the Intercontinental Championship on last week’s RAW. As expected, it ended up being one of the best matches in WWE this year. Moreover, it became personal due to the presence of Gable’s family at ringside. Recently, Cody Rhodes revealed what the backstage reaction was to the bout.

While speaking on The Dale Jr. Download podcast, Rhodes confirmed that the pair received a standing ovation in the Gorilla position. “Chad Gable and Gunther had this amazing main event, and they came back, and there’s nothing we can do but clap for that piece of business,” he further added.

Interestingly, the American Nightmare raised the 37-year-old’s hand after RAW went off-air. Also, Cody Rhodes claimed he was sent to do so after he felt bad because of Gable’s daughter crying at ringside. “His daughter wanted to see that and have that moment. I felt bad because they sent me out after to raise his hand, and I’ve got to do the dark match… He is an amazing athlete,” he added.

The series of matches had helped Chad Gable showcase his in-ring skills. As a result, fans are more behind the Alpha Academy members than they have ever been. Meanwhile, Gunther’s win signified his becoming the longest-reigning Intercontinental Champion of all time. Arguably, it is hard to deny that the Ring General is the greatest wrestler to hold that belt.

Furthermore, he will be accompanied by his Imperium members, Ludwig Kaiser, and Giovanni Vinci. Fans may find out Gunther’s next challenge during the segment. According to reports, the rivalry between him and Chad Gable will continue.

After an emotional loss last week, Chad vowed to keep chasing the Intercontinental Champion. Therefore, the former might end up issuing one more match during the celebration. The rumored fourth bout between the two men can take place at the upcoming premium live event, Fastlane.
