The American Nightmare Cody Rhodes has come out as the most successful superstar of 2023. The Prodigal Son has wrestled a total of 106 televised matches, with only five losses and nearing a 95% win ratio. Considering these numbers, one might easily value Rhodes at the megastar level with an MVP status of his own. But his generous persona sees the MVP of 2023 in his bitter-rival Seth “Freakin” Rollins.

While speaking on The Michael Kay Show, Cody looked at this year from the most beneficial level. He denied Shawn Michaels‘ claim of Dominik Mysterio being the 2023 MVP and stated Rollins had drawn more eyeballs. When he looks at the tickets sold, overall achievement and match excitement, Seth Rollins takes the cake according to Rhodes.

At the same time, Rhodes was also appreciative of Mysterio for having a link with the audience.

If I was looking at it from tickets sold, merch sold, excitement over matches, achievement in body of work, I'd say your MVP is, I'm not going to say myself, somebody else will hopefully say me, but I'd say Seth Rollins is somebody who is more the MVP.
Cody Rhodes’ claim on Seth Rollins being the MVP of 2023

The American Nightmare and The Visionary have not been on good terms since the former’s return to WWE. A rivalry between them was planned for a trilogy which culminated at Hell in a Cell 2022. But since then, both steered clear of each other and are a part of the star-studded Raw roster.

Cody Rhodes suffered only five losses in 2023

Royal Rumble 2023 paved the way for Cody Rhodes to begin his 2023 journey. With numerous ups and downs in the year, Rhodes has made it through the year with the highest winning success rate and minimal five losses. The first was against Roman Reigns on WrestleMania 39 Night 2’s main event.

The second loss came without his pinfall, as he was involved in a triple-threat match on Raw. Getting interrupted by Brock Lesnar, he was taken out of the ring, giving Finn Balor the advantage. Later, another loss came against The Beast Incarnate at Crown Jewel 2023 for the second time in a month.

A few months of Rhodes’ dominance came down to his tag team with Jey Uso. The duo captured the Undisputed Tag Team Championship at Payback 2023 from The Judgment Day. But they lost those titles in eight days on an episode of Raw, and even on the next week in a chance to regain them in a rematch.
