The ex-Damage CTRL leader Bayley headed to this week’s SmackDown all by herself. She suffered a tormenting betrayal by her own so-called sisters last Friday. The Role Model cut a solo promo that was interrupted by Dakota Kai, the 35-year-old, who was absent from the scene when Damage CTRL beat up Bayley a week ago. The Iyo Sky-led trio, including Asuka and Kairi Sane, showed up to emulate what they did last week.
However, Kai, who bowed out of the ring initially, came back with a steel chair and sided with Bayley. Now that she’s seemingly chosen her side, Dakota is keeping that up on her social media accounts too. Taking it to X, the Auckland-born wrestler reiterated that she and Bayley will always be together. However, it seems like the fans are reluctant to believe so. Some of them are under the impression that Kai has something up her sleeve.
In the promo she had with Bayley on SmackDown, Dakota argued with the 2024 Royal Rumble winner about what transpired last week. The Kiwi superstar affirmed that she, Iyo, and Bayley were like sisters, and things went south for them once Asuka and Kairi Sane joined the stable. Bayley repudiated Kai for not telling her the truth, despite knowing it.

In her defense, the former Women’s Tag Team Champion said she was stuck in a difficult place. Also, Dakota said she thought the animosity in Iyo for Bayley would blow away if the latter won big, which she did at the Royal Rumble. However, Sky’s stance didn’t change. At last, Bayley asked Kai who’s side she’s going to be on, and The Damage CTRL crashed the party.
Can Bayley really trust Dakota Kai en route to WrestleMania?
If last night’s segment was just a trailer, then the WWE Universe is in for a ride. Despite Kai siding with Bayley, the fans are getting a whiff of a potential twist in the tale. As evident from the show, Dakota Kai seemed almost ready to make her in-ring return based on how well she was moving.
Her knee braces are almost off, and it might be time for her to plot a comeback. She also shot some promotional material for WrestleMania 40 this week. And if that tells anything, Kai will be involved in the mix for the wrestling grandiose in Philadelphia.
How WWE proceeds with Kai being back in the fold is one to watch for. Judging by Dakota’s history in NXT, she’s not the best person to rely on. She turned her back on Rhea Ripley’s team back in 2019 at NXT TakeOver: WarGames.
