This past weekend at SummerSlam, Iyo Sky became the new WWE Women’s Champion. She didn’t spoil the success rate of women’s Money in the Bank cash-ins. In fact, Bayley, who was rumored to be the reason behind Sky possibly failing her cash-in, guided Sky towards the victory. As soon as the Japanese wrestler announced her cash-in and planted Bianca Belair with a moonsault to capture the gold, the entire Ford Field erupted in adulation.

Iyo Sky’s elation skyrocketed when Dakota Kai joined her and Bayley in the ring. Kai appeared at ringside and was pretty much a shock for everyone. Even though Iyo Sky‘s crowing moment was a feather in her cap, it would’ve been incomplete without the trio of Damage CTRL being there to celebrate the feat with her. Now, Dakota has revealed how she made it to Detroit to reunite with her girls.

During her live stream on Twitch, the 35-year-old disclosed that she didn’t even have 24 hours to prepare for the move. Instead, she received a call from Bayley at around 1 pm EST. The Role Model told her that they needed Kai to be present at SummerSlam to participate in Iyo Sky’s career-defining night. Also, it marked the 1-year anniversary of Damage CTRL’s formation. They burst onto the scene at last year’s SummerSlam.

After Kai got notified about WWE’s wish to have her in Detroit, she had to rush immediately to Detroit. She reached the airport at 5 pm and took off by 7. She arrived at Ford Field while Gunther vs. Drew McIntyre was still going on. As a result, she was rushed in and had to stay under a cover to hide her identity from others. So, when Sky won the title, she was ringside, and jumped in when Bayley signaled her to do so.

Back in May, Dakota Kai unfortunately tore her ACL. She was injured during a tag-team match alongside Bayley on SmackDown. Therefore, Kai needed surgery and was prescribed crutches. However, she has made unreal progress since then and is back on her feet. However, her WWE return still looks far-fetched as she isn’t medically cleared.

During the post-show press conference at SummerSlam, Dakota was asked about her injury status. Despite looking fit as a fiddle, she dismissed any claims of her immediate return. Kai said she’s still ways away from getting back to where she actually belongs. Adding Sky’s moment as the reason why she showed up, the Kiwi wrestler declared that 2024 is going to be her year.
