For a lot more reasons than just having a normal match, it was about representing our culture, our heritage, just Latinos and Hispanics all around the world. It made us put a chip on our shoulder and it was like, 'Okay, we're going to shock the world right now.

Damian Priest revealed that Backlash’s success opens the door for a return of WWE to Puerto Rico

Backlash 2023 was one of the biggest PLEs of the year. It featured some marquee matches and megastars like Bad Bunny, Cody Rhodes, and Brock Lesnar. However, it was not the matches and stars that made the show memorable, it was the fans. The event had some of the best reactions of the year, which led to the success of Backlash.

In the interview with Inside The Ropes, Priest stated that the show had to be successful. He added that if the show was not successful, WWE would not have ever planned to head back to the city. However, the immense success of Backlash opens the door for another PLE in Puerto Rico. In essence, it opens the door for other Latin American countries to come up as host cities in the future.

Obviously when you have events like this if you don't succeed the company just won't go back, it is what it is. But it was a success and now I know the door is open for a return to Puerto Rico, and more so, it opens up the door for other Latin countries and other opportunities.
