Hulk Hogan and DDP
Terry Eugene Bollea well known around the world as Hulk Hogan is a former WWE Champion and is considered as one of most famous wrestlers of all time. Hulk Hogan made his debut in pro wrestling fighting for CWF in 1977 against Brian Blair. Hogan spent 6 years wrestling on the independent circuit where he won the NWA Southeastern Heavyweight Championship and also enjoyed a brief stint with WWE where he made his debut in 1979. Hogan while still WWE started appearing in New Japan Pro Wrestling and was the first International Wrestling Grand Prix tournament winner.
In 1983 Hulk Hogan signed with WWE which was recently taken over by Vince McMahon and made his return the same year defeating Bill Dixon. Hogan returned to the company as face and defeated Iron Sheikh to win his first WWE Championship. With the first title win began the meteoric rise of Hulk Hogan to the top of the wrestling industry. Hulk Hogan became the ultimate fan favourite as he would trash the bad guys and would always win his matches. Hogan held on to the WWE Championship for 4 years with his title reign spanning for 1474 days before dropping it to Andre the Giant.
Hulk Hogan signed with WCW in 1996 after leaving WWE
Hogan teamed up with Randy Savage to form a tag team named The Megapowers. The two ultimate baby faces would go on to become a successful Tag Team with Randy Savage also holding the WWE title at the time. The duo broke up due to Randy Savage being jealous of Hogan. Hulk Hogan defeated Savage at Wrestlemania 5 to become a two time WWE Chmapion. Hogan’s second title reign lasted for year where he faced the likes of Randy Savage, The Big Boss Man ,Honky Tonk Man and many more.
In 1993 Hogan’s WWE contract expired and in 1994 Hogan started appearing on WCW tapings and officially signed with WCW later that year. In his debut match he defeated Ric Flair to win the WCW Heavyweight Championship. Hulk Hogan had always been a face for a better part of 15 years and suddenly turned heel when appeared at Bash at the Beach siding with Kevin Nash and Scott Hall.
Diamond Dallas Page on the most recent edition of the DDP Snake Pit podcast shed light on the infamous hell turn by Hogan and the reprecautions the company had to face because of that. DDP explained how mad the people were with Hogan and would hurl abuses over the phone :
“People took that s**t personally. Because they believed in him… When Hulk did that, the letters [that got sent to Turner Network]. Even though he was like, ‘ah, the red & yellow, its getting old [referring to the general understanding about Hulkamania]… When he flipped, the phones at Turner broadcasting were shut down.”
Hulk Hogan is one of the most decorated wrestlers in the world and is responsible for the rise of WWE in the world. Hulk Hogan is a WWE Hall of Famer and makes appearance on television on special occasions.
