Asia, predominantly, China, is one of the biggest markets for Hollywood producers. But, lately, the Chinese government has cracked down on Hollywood projects and the latest victim that has suffered the wrath is Dwayne Johnson and his highly anticipated DC film, Black Adam.
It seems like DC Films’ newest Anti-hero won’t be able to make it to the world’s second-largest theatrical market. Conventionally, a date for foreign projects is assigned by the government 4-8 weeks before its premier in other countries. But, the Dwayne Johnson starring film that released worldwide on October 21st, is yet to find a release date in China.
The hope to get a release date is falling down day by day as according to an exclusive report by , the movie regulators have hinted that Dwayne Johnson’s Black Adam has a slim chance of getting approval. This is a huge setback as the former WWE star’s other projects in China have banked in big numbers at the box office.
Hopes of a release date are going day with each passing day. As first reported by The Hollywood Reporter, movie regulators are hinting at Dwayne Johnson’s Black Adam having a slim chance of getting a nod for a release in China. This is a huge setback for the ‘People’s Champion,’ as his previous films like Rampage have done great business in the country.
Black Adam was made with a budget of $200 Million and has amassed $321 Million at the box office worldwide. One can imagine, how much revenue the film has lost due it not being released in China.
Though no official word has been put out, talking to The Hollywood Reporter, an executive at a major Chinese movie theater chain has said that they “stopped hoping” that the film will bag a release date in the region.

Black Adam Reportedly Stopped Because of Dwayne Johnson’s Co-star
The Hollywood Reporter has revealed the likely reason for the movie not being granted a release date. The report said that Dwayne Johnson’s anti-hero venture has suffered the wrath of the government because of the comments made by one of its top stars- Pierce Brosnan.
Brosnan, who plays Doctor Fate in Black Adam, once posted an old photo of his family posing with the Tibetan spiritual leader Dalai Lama and congratulated him on his 85th birthday. The Chinese government views Lama as “a dangerous separatist” and thus has also censored works of artists like Lady Gaga and Keanu Reeves in the past for supporting the leader.

Dwayne Johnson and Warner Bros. both have not reacted to the current situation in China, and an official statement is awaited. However, not only Black Adam but Marvel’s latest Black Panther film, Wakanda Forever, is also facing the dark clouds of getting canceled as it is yet to receive a release date.
