Edge debuted for All Elite Wrestling last night at WrestleDream. The wrestling veteran’s contract with the WWE expired on October 1. Moreover, he competed in his final match for the promotion against Sheamus on August 18. A few fans online believed that the Rated-R superstar betrayed the Stamford-based promotion by jumping ship to AEW. In reply, Edge penned down a heartfelt message, debunking the claims.

Adam Copeland addressed why he left the WWE and felt AEW was better suited for him. First, he expressed his excitement and openly welcomed new challengers on his new journey. Furthermore, Edge showed his appreciation towards the WWE for providing him with a stellar 25-year career and giving him “amazing” opportunities. Also, he thanked the company for helping him meet his wife, Beth Phoenix.

“Sometimes relationships just grow apart and I feel the WWE and I have just outgrown each other. I wanted to do more. They didnโ€™t have much more for me to do. Simple as that. And thatโ€™s ok. Iโ€™ll still be watching and still be supporting all of my friends there,” Edge added. Clearly, the Hall of Famer feels content with his WWE stint and believes there is nothing more for him to accomplish in the promotion.

Also, the 11-time champion called out the select section of fans who unnecessarily compare products without enjoying the show. He said, “As a wrestling fan, which I still am, itโ€™s exciting that thereโ€™s viable companies providing wrestling on national and worldwide platforms. If youโ€™re actually a fan of wrestling and not acronyms, that should make you happy too.” Finally, Edge promises the fans he will deliver and have fun as he embraces the AEW challenge.

WWE reportedly knew about Edge’s decision at the start of the summer

Adam “Edge” Copeland kicked off the “Rated-R Era” in AEW at WrestleDream. After weeks of speculation, he signed a full-time deal with Tony Khan’s company. The 49-year-old wrestled his last match for WWE in August, with many unsure about his future in professional wrestling.

Fightful Select provided an update about how WWE sources felt about the entire situation. “Some within WWE said it became โ€œobviousโ€ to them at the start of summer that Adam Copeland (Edge) wasn’t returning. WWE sources claim that Copeland left on good terms and would be welcomed back into the company if he ever returned,” the report read.

Evidently, Edge and WWE ended terms on a “good” note. The Rated-R superstar won several championships throughout his 25-year run with the company. Also, he ended up as a 2x Royal Rumble winner, a King of the Ring winner, and Mr. Money in the Bank, achieving a rare feat.
